Electric coolers offer innumerable advantages over traditional ice coolers. They don't require ice (that means no more soggy food), they truly operate off the grid, and they usually weigh less than an ice-packed 20-quart cooler. But that doesn't mean that all electric coolers are created equal. In this post, we'll dig into why the GoSun Chill is the best electric cooler on the market. First, a bit about electric coolers. Before the lithium-ion revolution, solar-powered coolers used heavy lead-acid batteries, which tended to deteriorate, especially in hot climates, or were misused for other purposes. Plus, the batteries had to be replaced approximately every three years and were disposed of as hazardous waste. If not, they resulted in lead pollution. GoSun, the company behind the best-selling Fusion (the first solar cooker that works at night), has changed everything by releasing the first viable solar-powered cooler: the Chill. It's a fridge that doesn't have t...

There are many factors to consider when making such a move. How do you handle practical utilities issues like plumbing, electricity, sewage, and water? What are the challenges that come with living in a tiny house, especially one that is off the grid? How handy do you have to be to overcome the challenges that will inevitably come? What do you do about appliances that require electricity but you can't live without? The good news is that you do not have to be a complete hermit to live in a tiny house, nor do you have to adopt an Amish lifestyle and completely forsake electricity. New solar powered devices are coming to market that make living off the grid easier than ever. According to a profile from Sharable, tiny houses are a good way to reduce your ecological footprint, save money, spend practically zero dollars on utilities, and lead an overall less stressful life. They spoke with small house dweller Merete Mueller about this lifestyle. “One benefit to tiny house living,” says ...

GoSun recently launched the Flow, a solar-powered water purifier that is small enough to fit in a backpack but produces enough clean water to wash your dishes or even take a show. It's the world's first portable solar-powered purifier yet small enough to fit in a backpack. Instead of manual pumping, a USB-powered pump enables the delivery of water to wherever you need it. For good measure, it includes a power bank that supplies to power the pump but can also run off a mobile phone or be charged directly by a solar charger (like this).  And it purifies water well. Really well. Like, 9999 parts per 10,000 of water-born pathogens well. E nergy Live News has a rundown of how effectively the Flow does its job: The purification of one liter of water is estimated to take approximately one minute. Patrick Sherwin, Founder and CEO of GoSun, said: “We believe that now is the time to work together, innovate, and create products that make the world cleaner and more re...

After nearly two months of CDC announcements about the best way to prevent the spread of coronavirus, hand washing remains the most effective tactic. Dr. Anthony Fauci saidthe following: "When you gradually come back, you don’t jump into it with both feet. You say what are the things you could still do and still approach normal. One of them is absolute compulsive hand washing. The other is you don’t ever shake anybody’s hands.” GoSun believes it can help make handwashing easier, no matter how far away you are from fresh water. Our newest product, the Flow (available for pre-order now), is a solar-powered water purifier that also makes for a portable hand washing station. The Flow doesn't only purify water with solar power. It acts as an entire kitchen sink that can fit into a backpack. Your handwashing station now goes everywhere you do. But it does so much more than that. Here are more things the Flow is capable of: Purify water: Filter removes 99.99% of p...

Because there is currently no vaccine or formally approved medical treatment for COVID-19, authorities have stressed the need for social distancing. Johns Hopkins describes it as "deliberately increasing the physical space between people to avoid spreading illness. Staying at least six feet away from other people." Most Americans are currently working from home and avoiding stores, with the exception of grocery stores, hardware stores, and other places with essential items. But even with limited contact at these retail locations and proper practice of social distancing, the possibility of COVID-19 transmission still exists. We at GoSun have always supported off-grid cooking and cooling. In the past, we posted articles about using off-grid items to help survive grid failure during wildfires, hurricanes, and other natural disasters. In light of the global coronavirus pandemic, we're now thinking about ways that off-grid technology can help us with this current c...
